The final stage was 46 miles, after four days of unseasonably cold and rainy weather. Leading the pack, the Rocky Mountain Factory Team gained a sizable lead on technical sections and won by about 10 minutes.
"I felt better than last year. Obviously, I'm more prepared than I was last year, but that cold start was brutal," Armstrong told the Associated Press. "The dirt was nice and tacky, so that helped. You could ride Powerline (where the rest of the field always walk their bikes up the gravel trail) pretty easily. So, no complaints."
With wins in six of the TransRockies' seven stages, the Rocky Mountain Factory Team of Stefan Widmer and Marty Lazarski won the 2009 TransRockies Saturday by 1 hour and 14 minutes, finishing the week long race in 29:01:02.

with nearly a 1 hour, 5 minute lead and having only lost a single stage by 43 seconds. After taking a 22 minute lead on the second day of the race and another 24 minute lead on the fourth stage, the Rocky Mountain Factory Team had all but taken the 330 mile Canadian Race.
The day began with freezing rain and a paceline in the opening miles of eight riders, which included Matt Shriver, Wiens, Len Zanni, Max Taam, Alex Grant, Tinker Juarez and Manuel Prado.
Armstrong said he pushed himself at the beginning of the race so he could warm up. He had several near misses with amateurs coming up as he came blazing down the trails.

Armstrong said he'd be back at Leadville in 2010.
At the finish line. By the last mile, his rear had lost all tire pressure, so Armstrong rode in on his rim.
Eventually and slowly Armstrong began to pull ahead about 35 miles before the Columbine climb. When he hit the turnaround point at mile 50 on the top of Columbine, Armstrong held an 11 minute lead over Wiens. Like last Nike Force Shoes High Top year, Armstrong rode up the entirety of the difficult Powerline climb; unlike last year, Wiens did not.

Lance Armstrong gradually pulled away from the competition at mile 35 of the Leadville 100 mountain bike race and didn't look back, beating the six time defending champion David Wiens by 28 minutes and his race record by Nike Air Force 1 Beige
Armstrong reflected on last year's race, when he shared the lead with Wiens for the majority of the race until Wiens pulled away for a win.
Armstrong said he had been more nervous for this year's race than he had been for the Tour de France in July. "I just wanted to be here, that's why I came back this year and I told everybody I was more nervous before yesterday's start than I was before the Tour this year," Armstrong told a crowd in Leadville Sunday morning. "I didn't want to mess it up."
Rebecca Rusch, riding the Leadville for the first time Sunday, won the women's race. Saturday's race was also the first time the race was Webcast.
Lance Dethrones Wiens at Leadville
In high physical form after a third place finish at the Tour de France and with a week of preparing for the race under his belt, Armstrong finished the race in 6:28:50, beating 1,400 competitors. Wiens came in second at 6:57:01.
"I said I can't hang, you gotta go on, you gotta go on, and that was the first time I ever told someone that. I think he thought I was kidding . but I had nothing left and I watched him ride away and I realized that was OK," Armstrong said.
